Red, White, and Bay Harbor.

Celebrating Independence Day in northern Michigan is truly unmatched. Bay Harbor Yacht Club’s celebration however, is something members wait 364 days for each year. The biggest party of the year brings in more than 1,200 members and their families for our patriotic buffet, dancing and fireworks display.

Planning for the big day

“Our 3rd of July Patriotic Buffet is our largest and most celebrated event here at the club,” says Krystle Pantall, Bay Harbor Yacht Club’s Event Manager. “It is the one event our members most talk about and look forward to all year round. Months of planning go into this event to bring our members a true All-American red, white and blue party serving dinner to over 900 members and seating members throughout the entire Club.”

Pantall and her team enjoy preparing for the event and the ever-popular ‘swag’ each member receives during the night. “Perhaps the most enjoyable part about this event is the swag, or better yet, the ‘flashy blink lights.’ As an Events team we put a lot of thought and care each year to hand select the latest and greatest swag for our members. Over the years the best items have spanned from necklaces, sunglasses, wands, light sabers, fedoras and in recent years the coveted cowboy hats. As our members dance the night away with DJ Ryan on the Quarter Deck we then wrap up the evening at dusk with a grand display of firework, truly a night to remember!”

A Night to Remember.

Events Intern, Morgan Harrison was thrilled to join the team this year and being a part of all the major events hosted at the Club. “Interning at the Yacht Club this summer has solidified my desire to go into event planning. The internship has given me the opportunity to get hands on experience in every step of the planning process. The Patriotic Party, in particular, was a fun event for me personally, because the intern team had creative freedom to plan and implement our décor and design. It was exciting to see our vision come to life and see the members enjoying the event.”

Enjoy, they did. With member-favorite, DJ Ryan Rousseau on the Quarter Deck all night playing tunes from the 70’s to pop hits of today’s music, the deck was filled with members of all ages dancing up a storm under the setting sun. To add to the fun, the Club’s new Young Adults Group even had their own private section of the Club for specialty cocktails and vendor swag giveaways.

Bay Harbor Yacht Club truly is a Club for all ages, but one thing they all have in common is knowing how to have a great night with friends and family!
